About the Program

This one-year vocational program prepares students for practical work on diesel-powered vehicles and engines. Students learn engine dismantling and assembly, overhauling, cooling and lubrication systems, fuel injection systems, electrical and electronic systems, braking and hydraulic systems, emission control, starter and alternator servicing, and systematic troubleshooting of LMV/HMV vehicles.

This course is suitable for students who are interested in automobiles, diesel engines, vehicle repair and hands-on mechanical work. It is particularly suitable for learners who want to build a career in automobile workshops, service centres, transport organizations, diesel engine maintenance, commercial vehicle servicing or independent repair businesses.
The course is specifically intended for candidates who have completed Class 10 with Science and Mathematics, a relevant vocational subject, or equivalent, and want to develop practical automotive maintenance and diagnostic skills.

The official DGT curriculum is structured as a one-year programme rather than formal semesters.

Semester 1 – Automotive Fundamentals & Engine Systems
Students begin with workshop safety, PPE, measuring and marking tools, fastening and fitting operations, basic electricity, batteries, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, vehicle identification and service-station equipment. They then learn the fundamentals of diesel engines, including engine components, dismantling and assembly, cylinder heads, valves, pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts, camshafts and engine testing. Training also covers cooling and lubrication systems, radiators, thermostats, water pumps, oil pumps, air cleaners and exhaust components.

Semester 2 – Fuel Systems, Diagnostics & Advanced Vehicle Maintenance
Students progress to diesel fuel feed systems, fuel pumps, injectors, FIP, CRDI and electronic diesel control systems. They learn stationary diesel engine servicing, emission monitoring and control systems, EGR/SCR, starter and alternator overhauling, and advanced troubleshooting of LMV/HMV vehicles. The syllabus also includes engineering drawing; workshop calculation and science; employability skills; project work; and industry exposure.
