About the Program

The Plumber CTS course is a one-year program under the Plumbing sector with NSQF Level 2.5. It includes 1,200 hours of training plus 150 hours of mandatory On-the-Job Training (OJT) or group project. The training combines trade practical, trade theory, employability skills, engineering drawing, workshop calculation and science. Successful trainees receive the National Trade Certificate (NTC) from DGT.

This course is suitable for students who want a practical, hands-on career in plumbing, pipe fitting, water supply, sanitary installation and building maintenance. It is especially suitable for learners who enjoy working with tools and want skills applicable to homes, commercial buildings, institutions and plumbing service projects.

The course is open to candidates who have passed Class 8, with a minimum age of 14 years on the first day of the academic session. It is also suitable for learners interested in eventually becoming skilled plumbers, supervisors or self-employed plumbing professionals.

The official DGT syllabus is structured as a one-year course, not formally divided into semesters.

Semester 1 – Plumbing Foundation & Water Systems
Students start with safety practices, PPE, tools and equipment, basic electrical joints, plumbing terminology and plumbing drawings. They learn to identify plumbing materials and fittings, use measuring and testing equipment, cut and thread pipes, work with PVC/uPVC pipes, and understand water distribution systems. Training also covers water meters, hot and cold-water pipelines, solar water heaters, water heaters and pressure-boosting pumps.

Semester 2 – Sanitary, Drainage & Advanced Plumbing
Students progress to drainage and wastewater systems, pipe joining and installation, taps and valves, faucets, water closets, urinals, washbasins, kitchen sinks and bathtubs. They also learn hydraulic pressure testing, sanitary ware installation, rainwater and greywater harvesting, plumbing repair and maintenance, leakage detection, inspection and documentation. Advanced practical work includes inspection chambers, septic tanks, soak pits, manholes, traps, vents and plumbing-related masonry work.
